Dance educator, choreographer and dancer. In 1985 Victor Rodrigo Josep obtained the CAED-Jazz certificate to teach Jazz Dance. He trained in dance and musical theatre in Barcelona, London and New York.
Víctor Rodrigo’s intention is to merge jazz and theatre to offer shows that reach the widest possible audience.
His classes are characterised by combining the learning of technique and rhythm, by developing the ability to appreciate and recognise different musical styles (Blues, Soul, Jazz-Rock, Musical…) as well as to dance them using different techniques (Dunham, Alvin Ailey, Mattox, Simonson, Afro-Cuban…). In addition, in his classes he imparts knowledge about the origins and history of jazz and jazz dance styles.
PROJECTS
EDUCATION
Dance educator, choreographer and dancer. In 1985 he obtained the CAED-Jazz certificate to provide jazz dance training. It is formed in dance and musical theater in Barcelona, London and New York. He began his professional career as a dancer and choreographer at the Grup Estudi Anna Maleras.
PERFORMER
Dancer in Anna Maleras works such as Bolero, Estem amb el jazz, Carmen, Suite de Sors, Scraiabin Suite, Saeta, Soledad, Rainbow or Suite d’espirituals, this last one also by Montse Colomé and Victor Rodrigo himself.
In addition, he also dances in other productions such as Guernica by Guillermo Palomares (Mexico), Floating by Gerard Collins (França), Strolling by Jan Manion (Austràlia) or Marathon by Carl Paris (USA).
VINCLES DANCE COMPANY
In 1987 he founded Vincles, his own company where he creates, performs and directs shows such as Mort a Venecia, Vincles, Vaig de blues (I’m going blues) or NO among others.
CHOREOGRAPHER
As a choreographer he has worked in multiple formats: Opening Ceremony of the Special Olympics (2010, 2012 and 2014), he has choreographed the events organized by F.C. Barcelona during 5 years, TV Shows such as Barcelona Ciutat Neutral, directed by Sonia Sánchez (TV3, 2010), the play Carmela, Lili, Amanda, directed by Marc Chornet (2011) or the film Una carta para Evita , directed by Agustí Villaronga (TVE, 2012). He has choreographed the Catalan Literature Awards, also for TV3 and directed by Marc Chornet.
He has also directed and choreographed the show Aires en Moviment (Buenos Aires, Argentina, 2013). He has recently choreographed for the company Projecte Ingenu directed by Marc Chornet in works such as Romeu i Julieta or in the play Vaig ser pòsper, based on Shakespeare’s work La Tempesta, also as an actor himself.
DANCE EDUCATOR, JURY & DIRECTOR
He has been invited as a professor and choreographer to the Prodanza Company, directed by Laura Alonso (Havana, Cuba, 2014).
He is Co-director of the Barcelona Jazz Festival, member of the jury of the Xic & Dans International Contest (Andorra, 2018) and has also directed and programmed the Eixample Dance Festival.
He is a renowned lecturer on jazz, holding conferences on the origins and evolution of jazz dance and is regularly invited to the Institut del Teatre and the Autonomous University of Barcelona. Currently he is a jazz professor at the ESART private university.
He has directed the professional jazz training and the pre-professional jazz dance company of the Escola de Dansa Luthier (Barcelona). He has participated in the development of the ACADE jazz dance program (European art professors sector) and will be a master in preparing jazz dance professors for this program. He regularly works as a jazz dance teacher at foreign international stages and has recently been invited to the University of Jerusalem, Sicily, Buenos Aires, Havana and El Salvador.
Víctor Rodrigo’s intention is to fuse jazz and theater in order to offer shows that reach broader audiences. His classes are designed to unite the learning of technique and rhythm, to develop the ability to appreciate and recognize different musical styles (Blues, soul, jazz-rock, musical…) along with the pleasure of dancing the different techniques ( Dunham, Alvinc Ailey, Mattox, Simonson, Afro-Cuban…) Furthermore, in his classes he imparts knowledge about the origins and history of jazz styles and jazz dance.
